    Hey guys,

Been a long time sense, I have fully and completely wiped a HD the right way. Is Darik's Bood and Nuke (DBAN) Still the best stuff out there? Just wondering, as I sit on this old ass laptop cause i effectively killed my Desktop.

Gotta love taking a project on for a friend, only to have the virus so damn bad. That I cant fix it. FML

I have a virus that is unfixable too, as it is in my hardware itself :/ Im just leaving it though cause the thing doesnt interfere with anything I do as it is designed to only run when idle in the background and as long as I either remove my ethernet cable from my PC or shut off my PSU when I am done using the computer it isnt really bothersome.

The last time I did a massive and secure erase of all data on all drives was a few years ago now and I dont really remember what I used. It was some program though that let me run DOD level erasing protocols which took forever but it was nice to know everything was completely nuked.
Though to get rid of a virus Id just do a full Windows format, copy a bunch of new data to the drive and then do a quick format. That erases all data, overwrites it with new data and then marks all blocks as ready to overwrite again. I have not yet encountered any virus that has survived that unless it was located somewhere outside the drive. It isn't a fully secure to certain specification level erase, but it is plenty good for any home use.

    Thanks Eni!

Yea, DBAN does use the DOD Level erasing protocols. I picked that one myself, to kill it and took over 15 hours. Just like when I was wiping TS/Sec HDs in the military.

So, I thought I give you some background on the virus. It is a new one that is recently out and a bit of a pain. Thankfully I didn't log on to the XOO website once, I took it on to attempt to fix it. What it does, is it gets deep into your registry and so on, that is why it called for such a hard wipe. How it keeps re-applying itself, is that when you surf the internet. It attempts to constantly load itself up to the sites you are accessing. So many of the sites that I was on, was effected or was attempted to be. Once it is in the site, then who ever access the page that you are on has the chance to get it also. Effectively spreading the virus, and having tons of data sent to its origin.

My help wasn't for nothing tho, there is now security updates across the board for the industry so no one should have any issues if they are running proper programs to prevent it.
