CD Review:Mumford & Sons + Dimmu Borgir First, Mumford & Sons. From what I know, which is admittedly very little, this is a fairly new band or at least I have just begun to hear about them. I just purchased their cd "Sigh no More" and I really enjoy it. It is quite different from the music I tend to listen to. They are classified as folk rock and to that extent I guess they are a kind of similar to David Gray. However, I believe David Gray has a folk rock influence whereas these guys are folk rock. I'm not too big into music classification. It's useful to get an idea of what someone likes but if it is acoustically appealing then I'll listen to it. All the songs on the CD are spot on and quite enjoyable. There is a very similar sound to all the songs which makes them all enjoyable. I hate when I buy a CD that is all over the place as far as music goes. It makes it hard to listen to a band if you are in a certain mood. The singer has a very unique voice which I think is partly what makes the music so good. The 2 songs which play on the radio are "Little Lion Man" and "The Cave". The latter was just released for play on the airwaves recently I believe. Second, Dimmu Borgir. The first thing I noticed about this CD and the last ( In Sorte Diaboli) which I was not pleased about was the lack of Norweigan tracks. That was one thing that I really enjoyed on Death Cult Armageddon and on Stormblast. Vredesbyrd and NÃ¥r Sjelen Hentes Til Helvete are probably 2 of my favourite songs by these guys. One thing you can expect as with the last is more sick and twisted tracks. There are some pretty gruesome effects added to the songs. But from a Black Metal band it's about par for the course. These guys don't like be pigeon holed as black metal from what Silenoz says. The added touch of the symphony is something I have really enjoyed throughout the CDs. I've only had a chance to listen to a few songs but so far so good as far as Dimmu Borgir goes. I must say that the CD case is top notch. The artwork on the case and through the book is excellent. Some black metal purists call them sellouts, whatever that means. I think it's a case of too much success means you're no good. Damned if you do damned if you don't.
Yeah, "Sigh no more" is really good. I've really been enjoying it. I'm not much into black metal (although the first few Satyricon albums were really good) but Dimmu Borgir are pretty good. I think my favourite metal album lately was Tryptikon's "Eparistera Daimones", though. SO dark!
What's the best song by Triptykon? I'm not too huge into Black metal either. Dimmu Borgir was probably my first venture into the genre. CoF is probably the next closest to black metal but they really aren't and I don't really listen to them much. The only CD I have by them is Nymphetamine...... maybe one other, doubtful though. Back to Dimmu Borgir, "The Demiurge Molecule" is a pretty solid track off of Abrahadabra. I'm really digging "White Blank Page" and "Awake My Soul" on the Mumford&Sons CD.
I'm not a real big Cradle of Filth fan; they're okay, but I'm kind of a bad metal fan. My favourite metal band of all time is Iron Maiden; and awesome as they are, they're kinda nerdy in a way. Lately I've been big into electronic music for whatever bizarre reason. I should go pick up the Tron soundtrack, I've heard it's supposed to be good but I haven't listened to it yet. I really like that Mumford and Sons album though, solid from cover to cover imo. Anyway, I don't know if I can say one song on the Triptykon album is "best", it's kind of one of those albums that is really best if you listen to the whole thing in a shot. Oh, and if I can make a shameless plug...one of my favourite albums right now is Elizabeth Shepherd's "Heavy Falls The Night"...it's REALLY good. Jazzy and funky and...yeah...Listen to this!!
