I don't care what anyone says. The new designs for MLP are f*cking fantastic and brilliant. They're simple and conducive to some great stretch and squash, they have really clean lines and nice geometry and the colours are bright and appealing. The characters are so simple that anyone can see themselves in them and they fit well with classic character types. The designs are also easily distinguishable and are able to be copied, mimicked, morphed and played with very easily. PLUS! It's exactly what people want to see right now, it's very modern and still knows its roots in the golden days of 50s animation. I don't know who did the characters for this show but this person is really talented and knows comics and animation very well, imo. When I first saw these I was all like: "Holy sh*t! That's so good!!" Plus they're probably a millionaire by now, which is also great. EDIT: This is Lauren Faust, and she's a genius:
