Deus Ex: Human Revolutionâ€™s boss fights were outsourced

A behind-the-scenes video reveals that the development of Deus Ex: Human Revolution’s boss fights was outsourced to Grip Entertainment.

Given that almost everything else in Deux Ex: Human Revolution is fantastic, the news that the game’s boss battles were developed externally by Grip Entertainment may go some way in explaining why they disappointingly contradicted the freedom emphasised elsewhere.
In the video below (which has been hiding on Youtube since August), the company’s president, Paul Kruszewski, describes the pressure working on such a revered franchise – one that he admits he initially knew very little about.
“Full confession: I’m a shooter guy. I was coming into this not knowing a lot about the Deus Ex world,” he explained.
He goes on to discuss the difficulty in designing a boss fight around a player character who could be built around a variety of augmentations – a realisation which seemed to have been ignored in the finished battles which focused on a standard shooter approach.
“You could have this augmentation, that augmentation or this weapon and so balancing all this stuff…you want to be true to the designers vision, but you want to give the player a great experience,” he said.

Well that explains why boss fights were so easy in the game compared to going around in stealth in the normal gameplay.
