Crowfall - What you need to know

    Intro

Crowfall (http://crowfall.com/#/) is a kickstarter game (like many of the games coming in 2015-2016) that is brought to you from the creative director of Shadowbane and the producer of Ultima Online and Star Wars Galaxies. Do I have your attention yet? If not read on and be amazed at the unique new game that will be coming out.

It will be a box price cost only game meaning after the initial investment for the box cost there is no subscription fee. The developers have stated there will be no currency buying and only cosmetic items like League of Legends.

I took a lot of time typing and organizing this so enjoy.

    Purchasing the Game (Kickstarter)
    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/crowfall/crowfall-throne-war-pc-mmo

Purchasing the game via kickstarter information:
The money will not leave your bank account till...

If this project is successfully funded, we will process your payment to ArtCraft Entertainment, Inc. on: Thu, Mar 26 2015 8:00 amEDT

Take the time to read through this informative thread. If the game interests you then back the project and get in while you can get a good deal on the packages. I personally have put $$$ into the game because of how awesome it sounds, but if you wish to wait for more information then feel free to do so. Just understand the Kickstarter packages will be ending soon.

    The Core Mechanics
This game is unlike any game you have probably played. As such it will require a brief description for you to understand how it all works out.

    Things You Should Know
    • Voxel-Powered Engine (Minecraft Much?)
Voxels are building block type technology that Minecraft uses. Each part of the environment can be changed and altered as a separate entity. This allows Crowfall to employee a vast degree of destructible terrain. In Crowfall the world can be altered, shaped, conquered, and destroyed in a way not seen in other games.

"Remember that these worlds are dynamic; players can BUILD and DESTROY features ON, and the features OF, the Worlds themselves. Find an old castle ruins, clear it out, and rebuild it into a fortress. Gather stone and build a stronghold at the mouth of a river. Collapse a mine to deny someone the production of Iron. Drop a forge to garrison your army, then build a wall around it to defend it from attackers."
    • The Eternal Kingdom
The game has multiple worlds within it. The first is the Eternal Kingdom realm that is persistent and static. This area is devoid of all resources (wood, stone and iron), however, the area lasts forever.
    • Dying Worlds
The rest of the worlds are called "campaigns" and are temporary. These will reset after 1-3 months or when a victory condition is met. This allows the game to fully utilize the destructible and build-able Voxel technology to it's fullest. Each campaign will have 4 seasons. Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter During each the terrain, monsters, and environment will become more harsh and difficult. At the end of Winter the campaign will end.

At the start of each campaign the player is dropped into the world like the first round of Civilizations with fog of war with deadly monsters, haunted ruins, abandoned quarries and the most dangerous predator of them all, other players! From there you will craft weapons, scavenge armor, secure a stronghold, forge alliances and conquer the world.
    • Eternal Heroes
Do not fret at the campaign resets because your characters will last forever. Characters ARE persistent and the spoils of war you obtain during each campaign can be used in future campaigns and in the persistent Eternal Kingdom. All of your crafted weapons, armor, structures, gems, etc will be either found or crafted from the various resources found in campaign maps.
    • Procedurally generated maps
Every campaign map in the game is automatically generated rather than drawn manually which means each campaign map reset (either by duration or victory) will result in a new map. This means each campaign battle will be different than the last in terms of terrain as well as victory conditions.
    • Points of Interest
POINTS of INTEREST are the resources of strategic importance, which are scattered all over the map. Some of these have direct game impart (like a Quarry that produces Stone, which you need to build structures), others have indirect influence (like a giant lake or a mountain range that hinders travel.)

    Combat
The game is going to have advanced action combat much like TERA with dashes that can be used to avoid attacks as opposed to a randomized dodge system. Melee attacks for example can be cone, rectangle, spherical etc and you can turn on or off the visual ground texture.

The game also partially does away with the "Trinity System" by removing a large portion of the effective in-combat healing one can perform and receive. To this end it would seem there are NO HEALERS! Now there are other support classes that can perform some healing with a plethora of buffs.

    The Worlds
The game consists of multiple worlds. In many games you may think of these as servers. You can chose which to play on to add the spice of variety to your life. Feel free to dabble in a Guild vs Guild server, Free for All Server or RvRvR server. This allows you and your guild to swap campaign types as you see fit. In terms of number of players, it’s a seamless-world MMO server, so it will support thousands of players.

Here are two examples of campaign rulesets. The first is an example of the second outer-most ring. Here you can see it is 3 Faction RvRvR with 100% inventory drop rate. All of your equipped character gear can be brought into the war and is not dropped when you die.

In this second picture you can see it is the second-closest to the center of the "Hunger" disease which makes the gameplay much harder. Here all you can rely on is your guild. There is 100% inventory drop like the previous match mode, but equipped gear cannot be brought in and you have a 20% chance to drop your equipped gear on death to provide a more hardcore server experience.

Building and Crafting materials increase in quality and quantity as you get closer to the Hunger. The most rare reagents can only be found in the Shadow, and the Dregs.

Let us now look at each of the Campaigns individually.

    Eternal Kingdoms
This is the persistent world whereby you will have your player and guild housing, trading, etc. There are no resources here so you will have to venture out into a guaranteed PvP Campaign (listed below) to gain resources to build weapons, items, armor, and more.

Players rule these areas as Monarchs and can grant land, titles, levy taxes, enforce trade restrictions, and set the PvP rules within their domain. Furthermore the server does offer the ability to build fortifications and structures do it is still dynamic like the campaign maps.

    Campaigns

The universe map shows ruleset bands; at any given time, each band will host a number of Campaigns, in various stages of completion. There should always be new Campaigns starting, and old Campaigns come to completion. Sticking with a campaign till completion will result in more rewards to thwart campaign hopping.

    --------------------------------------------------------
    [IMG]
    The Infected
This is a traditional RvRvR setup where you have three factions fighting for power. Each faction has 4 gods associated with each faction.

The goal here is straight-forward and simple. Chaos and Order fight to gain as much land as possible while Balance tries to thwart either from gaining a significant lead.

    --------------------------------------------------------
    [IMG]
    God's Reach
This is an RvRvR style map but with 12 factions. Unlike the previous realm the gods have disbanded their treaty with each other and now all twelve fight for power. Which of the 12 factions will come out on top? Join up and fight for your god.

The ultimate in RvR this is Realm vs Realm but with 12 realms.

    --------------------------------------------------------
    [IMG]
    The Shadow
The purity of GvG. Here it is every guild for themselves and each guild will fight for power against each other.

    --------------------------------------------------------
    [IMG]
    Dregs
This is a FFA server where alliances between guilds are weak and brittle and it is every man for himself.

    Character Customization

The character customization adds a lot of depth to the game with user-selected advantages and disadvantages, archetypes, and disciplines.

First you start with your basic archetype and each archetype specializes in a different trait be it support, melee dps, tanking, ranged dps, or a more specialist role whereby the mechanics of the class vary.

    Archetypes
    Druid (Support)
    Ranger (Specialist)
    Chamption (Melee DPS)
    Confessor (Ranged DPS)
    Knight (Tank)
    Assassin (Specialist)
    Templar (Tank)
    Frostweaver (Ranged DPS)
    Duelist (Specialist)
    Stalker (Ranged DPS)
    Forgemaster (Support)
    Legionnaire (Melee DPS)

    Multi-Classing System
Start with a base archetype (such as a Knight) and add advantages (such as "Eagle Eyes", which increases archery skill) and disadvantages (such as "Poor health", which decreases endurance -- but frees up points to spend elsewhere.

Advantages cost you points, disadvantages give you additional points to spend. There is a limit to the number of Advantages and Disadvantages you can start with. For example: “Eagle Eye” might give you an increase to accuracy with ranged weapons. “Dim-witted” might lower your Intellect, but give you points that you can send to further increase your Strength.

    No Levels
Crowfall utilizes a skill-based system that can be increased either passively like EVE Online or actively by simply performing the actions in-game. Much of the skill progression is done passively which will help thwart the bot and macro users from getting instantly high skills. There is also a hardcap on skills meaning there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

    Promotions & Disciplines
When you level your skills you will unlock Promotion classes which will dramatically change your class. You will also be able to get disciplines which will allow you to get additional skills, weapon styles, powers, and crafting recipes.

For example, the “Archery” Discipline can be used to unlock the use of Bows. The “Bounty Hunter” Discipline gives you additional skills and power that are helpful when hunting other players.

    Player Built Kingdoms
Every Player Gets a Kingdom! (Player Housing x1000)

Each player account is automatically granted an Eternal Kingdom, the first time they log into the game. This Kingdom will be shared by all characters on that account. As the owner of a Kingdom, you are the Monarch of that World. That means you get to set many of the rules that govern that World and control the land and the structures within it.

Kingdoms are unique, persisent, big, and can be multiplayer!
You can build structures here, just like Campaign Worlds. They are persistent -- meaning they never go away. They are big – much more expansive than a housing instance, with monsters to conquer and lands to explore: mountains, caverns, rivers, valleys… you name it! These are fully featured Worlds (they just don’t produce materials)! They are multiplayer – if you want them to be. You get to decide how much you want to allow other player(s) to access to your Kingdom.

    XoO City
You will start with a prescribed allotment of land and can expand your empire from there. This means we could reasonably have a XoO Kingdom that is built from the contributions of our members. From there you can parcel out land to the members. So if a Monarch has 100 parcels of land they can hand one person 12 and another 20 if they wish. The benefit of being a part of this system is that you will be able to interact with various NPCs and purchase items created through the construction of the facilities in the kingdom.

    Kingdom v Kingdom Content
Kingdoms will also be able to declare war on other kingdoms. Both Kingdoms will then agree on the win conditions and prize.

    Item Retention (Embargo)

There are two forms of storage. An Account Bank is storage that all your characters share while a Vault is campaign specific.

During the campaign, only at "Summoning Circles", individuals can place items, resources and materials into "Embargo". This is simply the term used for uploading items to your "Vault" inside a campaign. At the end of a campaign a portion of the Vault will be transferred to the Account Bank for use in the overworld by all your characters.

The Vault in each campaign will differ in the amount of items it can hold depending on the duration and risk of the campaign. So as a general rule the more risky and longer campaigns will offer larger vaults to receive more reward.

The amount of reward you get to keep is dependent on your contribution to the campaign, duration of play, and whether you win or lose (if available). This also prevents people from jumping into a winning campaign at the last moment to get free rewards.

Summoning Circles, as mentioned previously, are basically the games version of the world bank where players go to store their items. These are located in hostile areas and will make great ambush spots and promote PvP.
