Mega's business model is very worrying. Have a read of this That sounds a lot like malware to me. Most internet advertisers only get to track you when you visit websites they have trackers on. But, to replace adds on websites you're viewing, MegaKey needs access to memory being used by your browser. Meaning it has access to every single website you visit, and their contents. Trackers on websites can be blocked. But MegaKey sees everything. Trackers have a clear separation between websites which have deals with the advertiser, and websites that don't (eg, your banks website). Does MegaKey separate webites into those it screws with, and those it doesn't ? What data does MegaKey send back home ? For other trackers I generally assume they track everything they can. MegaKey can track a lot more than they can, because it has access to the memory being used by your browser. For example, a typical tracking cookie can't access your bank details for two reasons: 1 - Your bank is unlikely to run advertising on its site, so it doesn't serve up tracking cookies. 2 - Even if it did, privacy laws mean the tracking cookie would be unable to see anything beyond you visiting the banks website. By having access to your browsers memory, there is nothing stopping MegaKey from grabbing your banking password. Is he on a moral crusade against Google ? If so, what about the various websites that need advertising revenue to stay running ? Advertising revenue that MegaKey halts by replacing their adds. The right pockets being his pockets, not the pockets of the website owner. Oh, and increase the costs of website owners when they have to deal with people complaining about the adds that Mega is serving. Adds the website owner has no control over because Kim Dotcom has decided that his profits are more important than letting website owners control what shows up on their websites.
