Yamagiwa apologized today for saying that 30 frames per second was the best frame rate for action games. Deep down, he knew he was wrong when he said those words and has assured gamers that Bloodborne will reach the standard 20 FPS that action gamers are used to.

“I should have made it clear that I am a big From Software fan,” stated Yamagiwa, “People who are used toArmored Core should have realized that I would have never tried to aim for a frame rate that would make gamers uncomfortable with the fact that the game looks so smooth. I could never picture playing an action game at 60 frames per second, let alone 30.”

Many people are still confused as to why 20 FPS would be superior to an unstable 30 FPS or a slightly stable 30 FPS or even the mythical fluctuating frame rate above 30. Here are the most common reasons developers use to explain their choice in frame rate.

    • The game will look better which improves the core gameplay.
    • Consoles are very powerful which is why the frame rate needs to be limited.
    • It would feel weird.
    • 60 FPS is a myth.
    • Explaining the concept of trade-offs to gamers is too complicated.
    • Does anyone even like 60 FPS?
“It is my wish to ensure that everyone understands that 20 FPS is the definitive frame rate for action games,” continued Yamagiwa, “Do not believe otherwise. I am not sure why someone would listen to a person who just plays games. I make them so clearly I would understand games better than those people. Anybody who says that they enjoy playing a game at 60 FPS is clearly a liar.”

With this news, Sony and Microsoft have reshaped their advertising campaigns to display the fact that their consoles can show off games at a powerful 20 FPS. Sales of “next-gen” consoles are predicted to triple in the next month.
