SSDs dont have to be so expensive. I am not exactly sure why they are, with so many companies making them you would think competition would drive prices lower as it did with RAM. The current good SSDs on the market,lets say a 256GB size, can easily sell for $100 less and they would still make a profit.
Western Digital says it will shortly resume full HDD production. Id estimate a good 4 months before prices go back down to reasonable though
