Best FREE antivirus/spywear?

Discussion in 'Tech Talk' started by Kazzier, Sep 9, 2012.

  1. Hey guys, my licence on AVG just ran out and I was curious to know what the best free anti-virus/ anti-spywear is.

So far AVG has been great, however the cost of buying a new licence is pretty steep and to be quite honest I would rather support a free community run software or such if I can. Plus I understand many of them rival if not perform better than AVG.

    Any suggestions?

I use Avast. Only issue I've had with it is it doesn't like PS2 Beta. It's very customizable and user friendly. It's worth checking out.

  4. I dislike security essentials. I don't know why but I'm very reluctant to use it.

Maybe because microsoft is putting it out? That was generally how I thought when they first released it because they hadn't done anything like it before. Since then I have used avast/AVG and am currently using avast. I had totally forgotten about windows version of it and it more than likely does it's job.

  6. Thanks Enigma, this is perfect. I'll be able to make a decision with this. Will update when I have decided on one with my verdict ^^

  7. Spybot Search and Destroy and Malwarebytes are the only 2 I've used the past few years once I found out these caught things my paid anti-virus didn't get. These 2 go on every new build I make.

I've used Microsoft Security Essentials exclusively for quite some time now without issue.

use avast, register it for free, gives you 1 year of nag free use, then you must register it again.

turn off sounds, enable gaming mode, turn off sandboxing feature.
