Work is getting me the following laptop:

From the little research I did, this rig should pump out ~35FPS in crysis with max vid settings. Should be able to handle wow / war / aion with ease, I HOPE!

  2. 320GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive

yah, I can newegg a new one myself along with a usb <=> dvi so I can have 2 monitors on my work desktop

  4. A few more seconds to load, big deal. Most laptops have 5400rpm drives. You have to choose between larger capacity or faster rpm for most laptop hard drives.

I'd be more concerned with the Vista that is likely shipping on here.

Is that screen resolution correct? 1600x900 doesn't seem right. I think its usually like 1600x1200 or 1440x900.

not worried about OS :) I format / re-install all desktops / laptops that my department uses :)

That is the correct resolution, I double checked the HP site etc..

I personally would not buy that merely because of the video card. When I look at Laptops, I always check here to see how the card is rated:

The video card benchmarks are not all that great, and in fact it says specifically it is not suitable for Crysis:

Here are a couple laptops I am looking at now over at Newegg:

I am leaning towards the Toshiba because it is really cheap, and I don't fancy getting another huge 17" Laptop.

Very true, but if it can push ~28 FPS in low settings for Cyrsis it should handle wow / war / aion without issue :) (that is.. I hope)

I was looking at gett the following:

but seeing that work is looking to replace my desktop with a laptop why waste my money :)

In any case, as always thanks for your input Billiard ! much appreciated

  8. that Toshiba looks hot, almost exactly the specs I would want in a laptop... id love to see it with the faster hard drive and a back lit keyboard. You can't seem to make the same one at the Toshiba site.

I mean it would be nice to have a faster FSB as well, and more cpu cache, but then the price would go up ;)

If the hard drive speed becomes a factor, your performance is probably already going to hurt you... provided it has enough RAM (which 3 GB is enough, even for Crysis, possibly even on Vista as well) it'll be fine. Apart from load times but hey, they only happen once.

  11. just throwin in my limited knowledge/exp... i picked up a new laptop recently(HP Pavilion dv7-1285dx, picked it up from best buy), looks relatively similar to the specs you're showing(though i only briefly skimmed) and it ran wow max settings in Dalaran perfectly (i dont recall fps, and account is currently inactive), as well as Aion in beta on full settings beautifully. there was one of the three lighting effects that dropped me to about 20 fps at one point, so i just dont use that one effect. don't recall what exact fps i was getting in any one location but i remember being pleased (38-65 usually)
