    Im here. :p

  3. no, but apple did submit a patent application a couple of years ago for a screen with cameras mounted in each pixel that could collectively detect gestures and movements instead of screen presses. hopefully they'll perfect that tech soon

  4. Oooooh snap :O

  5. Thanks for the info guys, I think I'm gonna go with a Dell since we have a discount program at the university. Still undecided of the model but probably will get something mid-range price and weight. And orange.

  6. Generally, wireless internet, unit not powering on, or unit powering on but not POSTing are the three main problems. All motherboard issues. Also, the intel-based dv9000 series will have the video processor break down. The WLAN breaking down is a huge issue for the TX series (the tablet looking ones), and currently HP hasn't extended their normal 1-year coverage for this problem with a service advisory, and it's unlikely they will.

How quick do these problems usually pop up?

  8. Either about 6 months to a year (on average) or it won't have any problems at all for like two years, then it'll take a big dump right on your lap.

Sounds like a good thing I bought a 4 year warranty on the thing then. Planned on bringing to afghanistan when I was going so i figured with all the sand it might be a good thing to do.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that nothing happens to it in the mean time.

You should look for a Panasonic Toughbook if you're taking it to the desert.

  11. We used to put Panasonic toughbooks on the drilling rigs I used to work for. Those things can withstand a lot... One tech even drove over one with his car (accidentally or so he claims) and it still booted up.

I would def' get one if I could afford it.
