Path of Exile OBT(Xen Hardcore Initiative)

Discussion in 'Upcoming Game Chatter' started by PersonalRiot, Jan 16, 2013.

  1. The purpose of this thread is two fold:

    1. Is to explain what PoE is and announce the release of open beta
    2. Convince Xen members to play the game on hardcore as a guild/group/and ladder race each other.

    Here we go!

    What is Path of Exile?

Path of Exile is an online Action RPG set in the dark fantasy world of Wraeclast. We're a small independent team of hardcore gamers based in New Zealand and have created Path of Exile as the game that we'd want to play ourselves. It is designed around a strong barter-based online item economy, deep character customisation, competitive PvP and ladder races. The game is completely free and will never be "pay to win". Path of Exile is currently in Closed Beta and will enter Open Beta on January 23, 2013. If you'd like to gain access to the Closed Beta, please purchase a supporter pack here.

Players can pick from six playable character classes, which each focus on either one or two core attributes: Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence.

    Why should you play PoE?

    Two Words: Character Customization

    Gem System
Action RPGs have always been about two things: devastating skills and valuable items. Skills in Path of Exile are items - gems that grant abilities when socketed into equipment. A wide range of support gems allow the behaviour of skills to be modified. You can augment your Fireball to chain from enemy to enemy or split into multiple flaming projectiles. Up to five support gems can affect a skill at any time. Because gems level up independently and some are hard to find, they can be very valuable in trade.

    Passive Skill Tree
All of Path of Exile's character classes share its vast passive skill tree. Starting at one of six distinct locations dictated by their chosen class, players can focus on the core specialities of their class or travel across the tree to build complex combinations of skills from various disciplines. Scattered across the tree are Keystone passives that drastically alter the way a character is played. Resolute Technique removes your ability to get critical strikes, but also prevents enemies evading your attacks. Necromantic Aegis grants the properties of your shield to your minions rather than to you. Combining these passives with clever item and skill gem choices allows players deep levels of customisation.

How does it compare to Diablo 3?

Why play Hardcore with Xen Members(or at all)?

First off, if you character dies you don't lose it forever. It simply gets moved to the softcore side, that in itself should give you reason to start every character on Hardcore. The following is excepted from a response about Diablo 3.

    -----------------------------------------

So come play some Hardcore PoE, the game is free, and there is nothing else going on lately in gaming.

I am downloading it to check it out. Though I think this is the most expensive game pack I have ever seen!

It's basically their own way of crowdfunding, rather than going through Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, etc.
Some of the pledge levels on those sites are way beyond $1000 :>

  6. Plus you get basically a 1000 dollars in the in game store, that is a pretty decent deal considering most games buy - ins. I personally won't be picking up a pack since I am still waiting for a paycheck to work off my student loans but I really wanted to get the gold kiwi : (

Edit: In a few more days please let me know if your interested in Hardcore so we can get a friends list going for release. Hopefully we will get the passive skill tree released soon to show builds to each other. I will keep the list updated fairly often for when people die out of the Hardcore league into Softcore. Also for PVP Cut-Throat leagues, and other fun leagues.

  8. The passive tree for open beta is slightly different due to updates and nerfs.

Lulz that tree reminds me of FFX

  10. The passive skill tree plus linked item sockets give the game incredible depth. 2 more day until open beta, I think I am going to put in the gold pack to support the game. Either going to play a blood mage fire witch, or a speciality ranger.

  11. I will defiantly be playing, however will need to learn the basics first. I'm down if you want to sort something out sometime.

  12. Open Beta Notes are out. @Kazzier: The basic aren't too bad. Just remember to plan out a character and do a little research otherwise you might fuck yourself over by mid game with a build that cannot complete content due to being too widely spread.

  13. I looked into this. I will be interested in what people think of it.

  14. I remember seeing that skill tree awhile back, but geez. That's insane.

  15. i bought it such a long time ago forgot about it ... I also got Torchlight II on steam sale ... played it for a bit ... umm yeah so who be playin wit dis ish
