Every generation of PlayStation is famous for requiring laser lens/drive replacement. PSX, PS2, PS3, all of them.
my BRD on my ps3 crapped out a couple months ago. Tried a home brew repair with a new drive of ebay, but no luck. i phone up support and they said for £130 i could have a new refurbed ps3 (120gb) version, i said ok how long the warranty, guy said to me 3 months. I actually said LOL and hanged up. waiting for price drop as someone else mentioned, that is bound to happen for xmas with the new slim line models.
Sadly it won't work as I said the hard drive is encrypted the only way your going to be able to access it is on that PS3 which effectively leaves you with the following options. 1. Send it to Sony to get it repaired and hope they don't send you a refurbished model. Pretty much if you didn't back it up before and you can't access the console long enough to get your data now your screwed for all your saves. I went through this and have yet to buy a new PS3 because this pissed me off to no extent I lost so much stuff it wasn't even funny.
Well they got and immediately turned around a console to me, but I betcha it's a refurb. All saves are probably lost, but I'll live. Will update again when I have my console in my hands. -KM
I had an issue earlier this year, only had the console for 5 months and it just wouldn't turn on at all, kept getting the yellow light of death due to a hardware failure which turned out to be the HDD :/ So i lost everything but phoned Sony UK who were really helpful and they sent me a new one out for my troubles with a warranty lasting up till the end of this year (I got the console in Dec 09)
Sucks about your PS3 Areli, this is why I'm a PC man. =] Can't wait till something craps out on my brothers PS3, idiot leaves it running all night.
what. i have like five friends on my PS3 and he's one of them My PS3 is fine. it's KM's that kablooeyed.
