Webcam

  1. So I'm doing an online class for one of my professors summer courses and I need to make a streaming video for the students to see.

Anyone know some good quality webcams that don't cost a ton?

  2. You can fake it by creating/using an already existing gif/avi/etc and playing it back using software that creates a video stream that appears to be from a webcam. It's free. I don't remember what it's called. Use whatever camera you already have to take the video.

  3. I don't have a webcam in the first place is the problem heh.

  4. You don't need one. If you have, or have access to, any sort of video recording device in any form you can take that video and use the software to pretend it is a webcam. It won't be live, it will be pre-recorded.

  5. Oh well in that case I don't have any recording device heh.

  6. Or we could tell him what a good webcam is...
I will look around for ya, sokie.

  7. You're absolutely right man! I was clearly wrong for suggesting a free alternative to him. My bad man. How could I not have seen this???

We actually use a Sonic Foundry's Media Site system paired with a Canon GL2 to do the same thing. The results are excellent, but of course, the cost is probably a number of "tons".

What exactly are you going to record and stream? The professor walking around and talking? Is the video going to be streamed live?

  9. Not a live video. Its me pretty much in a classroom talking about biofilms. I need to make 6 of them. I'd prefer something with a good audio visual and the classrooms are set up with computers so I can just get a USB cam and do it from there.

I also have a set-up at my house for tutoring people which I can second as a classroom(preferred since I don't have to go anywhere) but the lighting isn't tip top.

So I need a cam that will work on a desktop, has decent lighting quality, able to move without complete choppiness(not that big of a deal since it will just be writing etc, and decent sound quality.

EDIT: I'd prefer a webcam since I can use it for skype and other crap later on, A handheld camera wouldn't be used for anything else unless the short courses continue.

  10. 1. go to nearest store
    2. find cheapest
    3. buy it
    4. try it

you won't be able to read anything unless it is within 2 feet.

  11. Stay off chat roulette!

  12. There you go. Fixed it for you.

  13. lol

  14. I hadn't laughed as hard as when I saw chat roulette on Tosh.0 in quite some time. Seeing a bunch of naked dudes stroking their meat is one thing, but having them recognize you is a whole new ordeal in of itself.

  15. I saw that episode last night. Almost makes it worth it to keep cable.

  16. His new season should be starting fairly soon. I haven't been home in about 2 months and my hotel doesn't have Com Cen unfortunately.

Don't you have a digital pocket camera ? Most if not every camera nowadays takes videos in addition to still shots. Mine does 720p in addition to 12Mpixels shots.
During lab experiments or presentations, other students just bring out their pocket camera, press the record button and set it on their desktop.

  18. Her cam does have a rather clear pic.
