Here's a video a fan made compiling all the info the devs have given us through interviews and what not. Game is looking very promising.

they have some pretty good rundowns on character classes in the forums

    http://www.swtor.com/community/forumdisplay.php?f=34

the stickys in each class forum show you what kind of abilities they will have. It seems that most of the dark side classes will be ranged, the only melee class on dark side will be the sith warrior.

Imperial Agent (Smuggler on Light side) will be a Sniper class that is able to call in air strikes and snipe people from afar. Sith Inquisitor will be a priest class with double bladed lightsabers or two lightsabers (squishy hybrid class).

I was originally planning on going Dark side because in most of the Jedi Knight games the light side powers have been purely defensive (only force push and force pull as direct offensive abilities for light jedi). Im not so sure now however as it seems that the light side classes are more well balanced then the dark side classes.

Too early for me to pick a side or a class yet.

In most games I pick the underdog side or least played. With this game I think it's going to be pretty close to 50/50 with Empire having slight edge.

I know there no main healer type class per se, but I'll most likely be picking a class that is considered "the healer" by the players.

I'm kinda hoping Sith Inquisitor and Jedi Counselor have the most healing and buff abilities, which so far I think they do.

Yup, those are "the healers" :p if you look at the stickys of their class forum. They specialize in healing, revival, cc (Mind Maze, Jedi Mind Trick, Mind Control) , and spellcasting (Force Push/Pull/Slam for light side & lightning abilities for dark).

Light side vs Dark side is like the different mirrored classes in warhammer. It is basically the same class with minor flavor tweaks, for instance Inquisitors use lighting, while Consulars use "pure force" but both have roughly the same exact abilities. Same for all the other match ups as well.

Doh! guess its going to be a long wait then for the people who were waiting for this game. Werent they working on it for several years in secret as well before they officially announced that Bioware was going to work on a Star Wars MMO? I guess ill have to play Starcraft II until it comes out or Star Trek lol ... dont see any other great MMO's coming out anytime soon except maybe Jumpgate Evolution

Yeah, I think development will be around 5 years in the making if it takes them to Spring 2011. Not 100% sure though, might be 4-5 years.

I'm gunna be checking out APB and TERA in the meantime.

Personally im glad its taking this long just means we might finally have an MMO that is playable at release :p sounds like even star trek isnt playable right now.

  15. yeah, i expected a summer or fall 2011 release for SW:TOR, so im glad its a little faster now but still give some time to play STO

  16. hmm, iv been thinking about this game and im currently not sure. Looks smooth and fun but graphics / UI and similar look abit shoddy.

Sounds promising but something gives me doubts. Time will tell.

The only thing i dont really like is that there are only 4 classes but well see how it goes. Im used to EQ with an S-ton of classes so i might be a little spoiled. I thought wow's class selection was lame too.
