Lil' lame me just googles images I think might look cool and try to find the one with the best res, which ends up being like 2 pixels per square inch... anywho if any1 has a place they get most of their stuff from, I'd appreciate it if u'd post it- specially you Zarash that is a fucking hawt background!!
I personally check 4chan.org under the wallpaper/general board. There are a lot of bad images there, but almost every time I go through the list (Takes like 5 mins) I find one or two backgrounds. At some point I may make a folder on my photobucket of awesome backgrounds.

I find all kinds of cool desktops at deviantart.com... you can browse based on theme/style, size, whatever... tons of already awesome art there, and more added daily Anyway, this is my current desktop on my computer at work (though I have the full res [gigantic] version):
